The collection, which contains mainly conifers, is found in the County of Veszprem, at Badacsonyors, in the southern hillside of Kisorsi-hegy, near the lake Balaton.
The arboretum's area is spread over 3,6 hectares. The botanical garden belongs to a strictly protected area of the National Park Balatonfelvidek.
Besides the botanical values, the park is also important as a place of cultural history, geological characteristics and the remarkable beauty of its landscape. Visitors can observe a collection of 3 different age class composition of trees and shrubs, that were planted by three generations of the Folly family. The oldest species are around 90-100 years old.
Despite the small size of its area, there is more than 400 species, varieties, and cultivations of evergreens from different places in the world.
The number of species and natural varieties of conifers in the forest-area of Earth's mild climate zone may rise to 600. In Folly's arboretum visitors may view about 20 percent of them.
This collection of evergreens offers a splendid opportunity for the botanical demonstration of conifers; therefore the garden is also an important area for education.
The main values of the arboretum's characteristics species of European-fame are: cedars, cypress, junipers and species of genus Pinus.
The beauty of the garden's scenery is enhanced by the value of the park concerning forestry. Natural protection is completed by the Oak-forest (approx 2
ha) to be found behind the arboretum.
