Bekescsaba
Bekescsaba - Description
The town is famous for the extraordinary delicious Csaba sausage and the abundance of the quality books published by the Kner Publishing house.
It is a major settlement of the Slovaks in Hungary. The Slovak Regional House (21 Garay Street) is characteristic, with its open chimney and a carved wooden porch.
The Great Lutheran Church (Szechenyi Square) with excellent acoustics, is the largest Lutheran church in the country. It has 2900 seats and a 70meter tower. The Small Lutheran Church (2 Szeberenyi Square) nearby is less then six months old. The courtyard of the Romantic style Town Hall (7 Szent Istvan Square) is, in summer, an appropriate venue for the successful programmes of the Town-Hall Evenings.
In the memorial room of the Mihaly Munkacsy Museum (9 Szechenyi Street) you can see 15 works of the greatest Hungarian artist of 19th century Realistic painting (Munkacsy) as well as a rich archaeological, ethnographic, art and historical collection presenting the Koros Region. In the Munkacsy Memorial House (5 Gyulai Street) items of period furniture and 21 works of the artist are exhibited.
In the Tale House (17 Bekesi Street) a varied repertory of children’s toys and puppets welcomes the youngest generation.
