According to relevant research, the church is supposed to have been built in the second quarter of the 13th century. During the 14th and 15th centuries, a new sanctuary was erected and a sacristy was built. In the period between 1595 and 1673, the church belonged to the local Lutherans, who extended the building by a tower in the middle of the 17th century. The renovation in baroque style was carried out between 1732 and 1757, at the expense of the Felsobuki Nagy Csampo family.
In 1980, the church was restored by the Inspectorate for the Protection of Ancient Monuments, in a way emphasising the Roman Age.
