The palace bearing classicist architectural elements is surrounded by a protected garden. Lions made of stone guard the gate.
The stone lions that decorate the gates of the Orczy Garden are also considered the symbols of the town of Gyongyos. It is said about the beautiful iron fence that it was made from the gun-barrels of the last uprising of the noblemen during the Napoleonic wars. The Orczy-castle, originally a Baroque building had acquired its present-day classical form by 1826, as a result of later reconstructions and extensions. In 1814 an illustrious resident was Alexander I, the Russian tsar.
The building today hosts the Matra Museum. Its natural science material is outstanding, while its local history collection shows the life of the town and its surroundings to interested visitors.
