Hodmezovasarhely - Description

Hodmezovasarhely lies at the south- eastern part of the Great Plain, at the meeting point of the Bekes-Csanadi Ridge and the sodic, clayey meadowland of the Tisza district. On the boundary of the two different natural surroundings pleasant conditions appeared to settle down.
Archaeologists found six-thousand-year-old traces of human settlements close to the confines of the town. The uncovered culture layers prove the appearance of constant human dwellings. The Neolithic age can be reconstructed through the hovels recessed to the ground, storing plates, sleeping counter weights and the "Kokenydombi Venusz", the fertility symbol and other fossils. Archaeology uncovered the fossils of the Copper age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and the great migrations period.
The fossils of the various ages that came to the surface can be seen at the permanent archaeological exhibition of the Tornyai Janos Museum.
