In 1797, Gyorgy Festetics founded the first agricultural college in Europe, especially to provide specialists for the large Festetics estates.
The institution moved into its own premises in 1807, and behind it, a teaching farm was formed for the practical education classes. Most of the buildings, granaries, stables etc., were finished by 1820 and still remain the same.
