The Roman Catholic church dedicated to Our Lady of Hungary, another important monument of the town, can also be found in the square. In the 12th-13th centuries, a small, round chapel was erected here. Around 1385,using the former basic walls, Palatine Istvan Lackfi started building the church for the Franciscans who were invited by him, and joining the monastery to the northern part of the church. These two buildings were fortified during the Turkish occupation.
In the 18th century, the Franciscans returned to the ruined buildings and started renovating them. In 1878, a Gothic tower was added to the front of the church. The 14th-century rose window that had survived was incorporated in the tower.
Later, frescos as old as the church were found. The tombstone of Palatine Lackfi can be seen in the church. Attached to the church is the former monastery. Lackfi had it built for the Franciscans, then it was fortified. In the 18th century, Gyorgy Festetics had the monastery enlarged. Early last century, the Premonstrants took over from the Franciscans.
