Petro house - Miskolc

This is the permanent exhibition of the Headquarters of the Miskolc Gallery, Szalay Lajos and Kondor Bela. It is a typical civil house, in which Petro Sandor, who was a doctor and an art collector lived until his death. His considerable private collection went to the property of the town.
The Miskolc County Council renovated the building for the Miskolc Gallery in 1992. The house, which is found in the centre of the town, was renovated for the display of exhibitions. Renovation work was finished by the autumn 1992. The single-storey building was added a storey and an attic. The Headquarters of the Miskolc Gallery was in the Petro house from 1992 to 1995.
At that time there were 3 permanent exhibitions in the house: the permanent exhibitions of Kondor Bela and Szalay Lajos, and the contemporary artists. From 1996, a permanent exhibition, titled "The Fine Art in Miskolc in the second half of the 20th century" in all the galleries, and the Fine Art Specialist Library of the Town Library have been presented on the ground floor.
Szalay Lajos's return to Hungary after spending many years abroad and the drawings given by him to Miskolc and to the Hungarian State inspired Miskolc to create a worthy exhibiting gallery for the master near to his house. By extending the building and forming the attic it became possible to exhibit Kondor Bela's works permanently in this house. He was another genius of the century and he had a lot of professional and friendly connections with the town.
