Rakoczi house, Galery of Miskolc - Miskolc

It has been the new central building of the Miskolc Gallery since May 1996. It gives home to the Headquarters of the Miskolc Gallery and permanent and temporary exhibitions. The so-called Rakoczi house is one of the oldest houses of Miskolc.
The house has storeys built in baroque style with the neighbouring "Dark Gate" are important and significant points of the main street of the town called Szechenyi street. This has been pedestrinized by now. Dory Ferenc had it built around 1652 and it had been the only storeyed house in Miskolc.
At the beginning of the 18th century Rakoczi Ferenc II. stayed at this house twice and that was how the building got its common name: Rakoczi house. With the reconstruction and by building the new wing the whole building complex took its shape. Its architects were Viszlay Jozsef and Horvath Zoltan.
