At Didak Kelemen's request Karoly III. permitted the Minorite monks to return to Miskolc. In April 1729 Giovanni Battista Carlone from Eger measured the territory of the church, the monastery and the garden. In September the foundation stone was laid. The work was done quite quickly with the powerful help of the bishop of Eger and therefore the church was roughly completed by the year 1743. However, it took several more decades to decorate its inner and outer side and to erect the tower.
The monastery was built between 1743 and 1771 and the school between 1773 and 1777. The roof of the monastery burned down on July 19, 1843. Moreover, the bells melted and the arches collapsed. By the year 1845 the towers were rebuilt on the model of the original ones. The arches were fortified and the roof with the front was renovated.
The architect of the church was Giovanni Battista Carlone, the architect of the bishop of Eger, Erdody Gabor. The present altar was completed by August 1819. It shows similarities with the one at the main church in Papa. The present altar-piece, painted by Sajosy Alajos, depicts the scene of the Virgin Mary ascending to Heaven. It is a copy of a painting by Tiziano. In the side chapels there are altars in the classicist style. In the second row is the St. Ferenc-altar, which, completed by 1744 is the same age as the church.
At the same time, on the other side of the church the St. Antal-, the St. Erzsebet-, and the St. Jozsef-altars are located in the third row of the respected chapels. These pictures are new. The pulpit was made in 1758 by a sculptor from Eger and by Piringer Agoston, the carpenter of the order. Stocherle Jozsef, the carpenter of the Minorite monastery of Eger, made the splendid seats in 1754-1766. (The seats in the churches of the Minorite monasteries in Eger and Szeged were made by Stocherle as well.)
The arches of the church were plain without decoration for almost two hundred years. The compositions made in baroque style and the decorating were made by Raksanyi Dezso and Koreny Jozsef in 1928.
