This church, decorated with eclectic towers, is a highly respected construction from the baroque era. In the Middle Ages there was a chapel of a village named Mindszent exactly on this spot. The baroque church was built at the beginning of the 1700's by the archbishops Althan Mihaly and Mariassy Sandor, and was consecrated in 1744. In some people's opinion the architect of the Minorite church, Giovanni Battista Carlone, was the architect of this church as well.
The main front and the decorative doorway are beautiful monuments of baroque art. The pulpit and the main altar stand out among the baroque furniture of the church. The picture on the latter depicts St. Peter and St. Paul painted in 1855 by Kovacs Mihaly. The other altar pieces, such as the Virgin Mary, St. Jozsef, St. Laszlo, St. Istvan (all of them from 1879) were painted by Kovacs Mihaly as well.
In the history of the construction of the church the King's visit in 1857 was an important date. When looking at the monumental church Ferenc Jozsef offered to pay the cost of building one of the towers.
The Mindszenti Church gained its present shape in the last third of the 19th century with the construction of the two towers.
