Siofok - Description
This, the largest town of the southern side of Lake Balaton, occupies a 17 km strip along the beach. Its port serves every boat route on the lake. Cruise boats also start from here. Composer of the Csardas Queen and other internationally renowned operettas, Imre Kalman (1882-1953), is the famous son of this city. His piano and many personal belongings can be seen in his museum (5 Kalman I. Walk).
About 3.000 kinds of minerals from the Carpathian Basin have been collected in the Museum of Minerals (10 Kalman I. Walk). The 45 metre water tower (Szabadsag square) is the symbol of the city. The Southern Balaton Cultural Centre nearby (2 Fo square) is the venue of many interesting special events.
