Sirok

Sirok - Description

The once proud 700-year-old castle, built on a 300-metre rise, is only a ruin today, but it is still worth visiting because of the panorama opening to the Matra Mountains. The two fascinating rock formations nearby bear the names „Friar” and „Nun”. Another place interest in the main street of the village is the series of cave homes dug in the igneous rock, a form of dwelling once prevalent in the settlements of the Bukk Mountains.

Lake Nyirjes
The lake and its surroundings are a declared nature preserve. Among its most fascinating flora are several Ice Age examples, which managed to survive the climactic change here. It contains a valuable, unique micro and macroscopic fauna, especially rich in shells. Red Book protected butterflies include the swallow-tailed butterfly and pea-cock eye.
