The outskirts of the town sheltered by city walls were populated with farmers and craftsmen. The visitor can feel the atmosphere of the one-time farmer district during the walk on Balfi, Becsi, Fovenyverem, and Halasz Streets. The Bakery Museum is located in the building which used to be the oldest bakery in town. The building is decorated by the one-time coat-of-arms made of stone on the front side with the figure of lions braking a piece of pretzel. The owners of the house were baker families between 1686 and 1970. Later the City Council opened the exhibition keeping the entire interior untouched.
The Bakery is located in the right part of the house. The big oven in the heating room, the bread-bin in the frying room, leavens, and breadbaskets are ready for immediate work. The former flour warehouses were transformed to sweetshops in the end of the 19th century meeting the requirements of Sunday afternoon walkers.
Since the master practically could not leave the workshop even during the night shift there was a separated small wooden shelter for a little sleep.
The room on the street front was the bakery shop, which was divided into two parts to form a sweetshop. The interior of the sweetshop is still the original. The baker family's home can be reached from the right side of the arched door. The furniture exhibited shows the home culture of the craftsmen and farmer families of the 19th century.
