The Gemenc forest can be found less than six kilometers from Szekszard, which has been part of the Danube-Drava National Park since 1996.
This flood area forest along the banks of the Danube is one of the treasures of Europe, where the lush vegetation gives shelter to the native red deer, wild boar, and its reputation is due to the red deer trophies killed here which often meant a world record. We can also see the black stork here, which is considered a rarity even Europe.
All these can be explored on foot, by bicycle, on horseback or by equipge just as well as by narrow-gauge railway or on a small ship.
The Excursion Center can be found in the Gemenc forest and it expects the arriving tourist with 15 hectares of park forest and tourist facilities. It is also one of the favorite trekking spots of the locals.
It has built places for laying fire, open-air playground, and pleasant surroundings. You can by your ticket for the forest narrow-gauge railway go on a trip by an equipage, you can ride a horse, the children can ride ponies, and if you are hungry, the Trophy Restaurant offers you a wide range of game and fish dishes and specialities.
The centre can be reached on foot from the Baranyfok stop of the Gemenc narrow gauge railway.
The Trophy Museum shows the development of the Danube floodplain and introduces this beautiful world, abundant with game and fish.
Open: 15.03. - 31.10., every day (except Monday): 10am. - 6pm.
