The Baroque church was built by Marton Padanyi Biro, Bishop of Veszprem, landlord of the town between 1750 and 1760.
Its frescos were painted by Johann Cymbal. Its 44 m-high towers can be seen from afar. The most valuable listed piece of art in the church is a Pieta statue, made in the 17th century. The originally white statue is now coloured. The high altar piece depicts Mary Magdalene, the patron saint of the church. We can also find her represented in the coat-of-arms of the town.
On the north side of the church there is an 18th-century statue of St Florian, on the south side a statue of the Holy Trinity in the style of Louis XVI of France. Opposite the church is the priests' residence and offices, originally a single-storey building from around 1770, which had another floor added in the 1930's. On the wall there is a tablet to commemorate Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty, who, then using his real name, Jozsef Pehm, was the abbot of Zalaegerszeg between the two wars until he was appointed Bishop of Veszprem.
